Skywatch observatory was built in 1994 and recognised by Siding Spring as a sister observatory.  Located on 3 acres of land and close to Coonabarabran, Skywatch provides a great location to stay for a few nights, relax and enjoy some country sights and the sounds of nature.

On cloudless nights Gary provides an exclusive and complete astronomy experience with

  • A guided tour of the night sky with a 16 inch Newtonian Telescope
  • Astronomy/science movie (or two…) in the Skywatch Dome Theatre
  • Astrophotography of the Milky Way with your DSLR cameras on a tracking mount
  • Stellar astrophotography with Seestar S50 telescope and if conditions are suitable a Celestron RASA C8 telescope
 
On cloudy nights Gary presents;
 
  • a planetarium show in the Dome theatredemonstrating the motions of the stars in the sky, the constellations visible at different times the year as well as showing astrophotographs of galaxies, nebulae and star clusters
  • Astronomy/science movie (or two…) in the Skywatch Dome Theatre

Gary and Merril

Over 20 years Merril has used her skills as an Artist, Designer, and business owner has developed Skywatch into a comfortable place to relax and unwind. For guests who choose to stay Merril cooks a wholesome country breakfast. Gary has a PhD in Chemistry and uses his experience in science and industry to develops and present the Skywatch Astronomy Experience and together we are making new content for our Dome Theatre.
